Vinegar Company Lofts – 19 River St

Originally the three-storey warehouse for the historic Queen City Vinegar Company, 19 River Street is now home to the Streetcar Development conversion, Vinegar Company Lofts. Though this building has undergone the substantial addition of two new storeys, making the structure five-storeys tall, its heritage characteristics have been preserved, and the former warehouse continues to boast the Edwardian Classicism features of its original 1908 construction. Lofts feature exposed wood beams, 10 to 14 foot ceilings, and sandblasted brick walls, while incorporating modern touches such as stone countertops and stainless steel appliances. These 38 lofts, both new and vintage, create 38 opportunities to enjoy the fantastic location and the prestige of living in a piece of Toronto’s history.

As the original company’s name suggests, this building is located in the Queen Street East area, providing easy access to the Don Valley Parkway. Though this location is a commuter’s dream, with Leslieville, Riverdale and the Distillery District all nearby, you won’t want to roam too far from your home! This area has become Toronto’s film district, and indeed, several film studios are located within a five-minute walk of your home. Though Leslieville is located on the other side of the DVP, the short walk or streetcar ride is worth the effort, as this district has been labeled one of the most peaceful places to spend a day without leaving Toronto. Filled with friendly neighbourhood cafes, enchanting specialty shops selling everything from goat cheese to eco-friendly baby products, and lovely restaurants that simply beg you to lounge on their patios, Leslieville is an oasis in the heart of the city, with all the conveniences of urban living.

Nearby Riverdale takes this idea of “escape” to even greater proportions. Riverdale Farm, located in Riverdale Park, is the perfect place to forget that you live in the “big city.”  Feed the chickens, milk the cows, or simply shop at the weekly Farmers‘ Market, and feel the cares and concerns of city living melt away. Go for a run in Riverdale Park, or enjoy the swimming pool, tennis courts and outdoor hockey rink, perfect for staying active all year long. The nearby Distillery District offers a different feel, featuring 13 acres of Victorian Industrial Architecture. Unique dining experiences with an emphasis on excellent brews and top-quality wine are complimented by the areas many entertainment venues, perfect for a night out, or an afternoon wander; this is, after all, Toronto’s first “pedestrian-only village” and Toronto’s only historic district. At the end of a day exploring all that this optimal location has to offer, return home to your own “piece of history” at Vinegar Company Lofts.
